According to the writing on the showcase, the shell was fired by the Indian Air Force during the 1971 Pak-India War, which the well took in its lap and the Gurdwara was safe from being destroyed.

Darbar Sahib has become one of the largest Gurdwaras in the world, including the Bari Dari, library, museum, guest house and anchorage.


Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, at a distance of about 120 km from Lahore, on the banks of the River Ravi, is the second most sacred place after the 'Gurdwara Janmasthan' of Kartarpur Sikhs.

Kartarpur Gurdwara District is located in Shakar Garh Tehsil of Narowal, some distance from the Indian border. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib was established in 1539.

When Narowal descends on Shakar Garh Road, the white dome of Gurdwara Kartarpur is visible, built by Maharaja Patiala Bhupinder Singh Bahadur between 1921 and 1929.

Baba Grunanak lived here 18 years before his death and Grunanak died at this place in Kartarpur too. Guru Nanak Maharaj spent the last days of his life here and his burial place and grave is also there, which is why Kartarpur is a sacred place for the Sikhs.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib is the largest Gurdwara in the world. Prime Minister Imran Khan Baba will inaugurate Kartarpur Passage today on the occasion of 550th birthday of Guru Nanak.
